Terms and Conditions
Payments
Prices
All prices are non-negotiable and priced according to your exact design and the size of your order. Following your initial enquiry you will be asked to send a small deposit. This deposit will secure your required date in my diary.
Deposits
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure the commission of your order and chosen date with Bake It Till You Make It. Orders are not fully confirmed until the deposit has been received and acknowledged by me which is usually sent by your original method of enquiry or by email. I do not accept any payments by cheque whether this be for a deposit payment or final payment.
Please note, orders placed for cakes with less than 14 days before the collection or delivery date require full payment at the point of order confirmation.
Payment methods
Payment can be made by bank transfer to my nominated bank account or by cash. For larger events I do utilise a card machine. The balance of your order is due 1 week before the day of collection/delivery by cash or same day bank transfer. Full payment must be received for the order to be released to you.
Cancellation
If cancellation of an order takes place more than 7 days before the agreed collection/delivery date I reserve the right to retain your non-refundable deposit. If cancellation takes place less than 7 days before the day of collection/delivery then I reserve the right to seek 100% of the order value. Cancellation of orders must be made in writing by email and will only be deemed to take effect from the date your email was sent.
Should you need to postpone or alter the date of your order I will endeavour to transfer your order providing the date is suitable for me, otherwise it shall be treated as a cancellation.
Bake It Till You Make It reserves the right to cancel the booking in unusual circumstances beyond my control, such as fire, power cut, ill health, etc during which I will refund in full any money taken.
Designs
Alterations & changes
If any changes or alterations to the order design are requested, I will endeavour to adjust the design post-approval where possible, but sometimes this is not possible according to the nature of the request or amount of notice given. If the alteration affects the cost, or preparation work for the original design has already been undertaken such as the purchasing of ingredients, then your balance will be adjusted accordingly.
Each bake is made by hand, so although every effort is made to ensure consistency, some variation may occur from the design agreed.
Allergies & special dietary requirements
All my bakes are suitable for vegetarians. Please be aware that although ingredients such as nuts can be removed from the bakes, I cannot guarantee that any of my bakes are 100% free of nut traces due to the manufacturing process used for some ingredients. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure allergen information is passed on to those consuming the bake.
I can cater for dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian requirements, please discuss your specific requirements at the time of enquiry.
Non-edible items on cakes
It is generally standard practice for heavily decorated cakes to contain a proportion of inedible items; it is the client’s responsibility to ensure these are removed by yourself, your caterer or guests before consumption, for example support dowels and boards in tiered or sculpted cakes, ribbon, wires in sugar flowers, support sticks in modelled figures etc.
Such non-edible items will be highlighted under important safety information on the delivery note. Please take a moment to read this before consumption and ensure this information is relayed to the person cutting and serving the cake.
Food colouring
Where food colourings are utilised during the commission of an order, I will always use the correct amount as prescribed by the manufacturer and never exceed the safe amount. However, it is important to note that some food colourings may have an adverse effect on attention and activity in children. My aftercare sales guide which is provided to every customer will also contain information surrounding the use of food colourings.
Delivery
Delivery
Delivery charges are calculated on a mileage and time basis. Alternatively, orders can be collected free of charge from my home. You will be provided with my home address the day before collection.
If you choose delivery, it is my intention that your order will be delivered in perfect condition prior to the start of your event. However, I ask for patience with factors that may be beyond my control such as accidents and traffic conditions as I cannot be held liable for any such delays. For this reason, I recommend all orders are delivered at least 2 hours in advance of the event start time.
Please ensure you inform me of the correct event time and location plus the postcode of the venue. In the unlikely event of late delivery, the maximum compensation will be a refund of the delivery charge.
Please note, once your order has left my possession, I cannot be held liable for any damage that is rendered to the order following delivery or collection.
I will endeavour to accommodate late requests for delivery after securing the booking based on collection where possible, but this cannot be guaranteed.
All orders will be packaged accordingly in cardboard packaging. Cakes are presented for collection or delivery on a cake board or drum in a cardboard cake box. Please do not place any objects on top of the cake box. You will also be provided with our cake care instructions regarding transportation, handling and storage of your cake.
Collection
Any orders not picked up within 1 hour of the agreed collection time will be held for a maximum of 48 hours. A new collection time and day can be agreed subject to my availability.
With regards to any orders which have not been collected after this time I reserve the right to seek 100% of the order value.
Storage & consumption
Storage & consumption
Please remember that your order may include very delicate and intricate details and decorations, therefore, I cannot accept responsibility for damage that is done to the cake after it has left my possession. If for any reason your order has sustained any damage and requires a repair you can contact me and I will endeavour to help, however repair costs will be priced accordingly.
Portion guide
Number of servings per order as detailed in quotes are a guideline only. Yield will vary dependent upon how the order is cut and the size of portions offered, which is the responsibility of the customer.
Best before date/storage conditions
Fondant or sugar paste covered cakes should be stored in the cardboard box the cake is collected or delivered in and kept in a cool but not cold, dark place away from direct natural or artificial lights. Fondant-iced cakes can stay fresh for up to 10 days after receipt if it is stored correctly. The sugar paste icing helps create a natural barrier from the air that causes cakes to go stale.
Fondant covered cakes and modelled figures should not be refrigerated nor stored in a plastic container, as it will cause condensation to form on the surface of the icing and give the cakes a wet look, in which colours may run though the taste will be unaffected.
My bakes are made from natural ingredients; because of this they do not have the extended shelf life of most supermarket cakes, which contain additives and preservatives to ensure their prolonged life. Freezing the cake, however, preserves the taste of the sponge and icing as much as feasibly possible, and will be perfectly safe to eat, however, food hygiene regulations recommend that food should only be frozen for a maximum of 3 months.
Buttercream and chocolate ganache cakes
Buttercream and chocolate ganache covered cakes do not need to be refrigerated except in conditions of extreme heat. As noted above, refrigeration will affect the visual appearance of the cake as it returns to room temperature. The cake may appear to sweat due to the rapid change in temperature from fridge to room temperature which may cause colours to run.
Complaints
Should you have concerns about your order, please notify me immediately upon collection or delivery of the cake so that I may attempt to rectify it in time for your event. All other concerns should be made in writing, and evidence of the fault should be included. Order samples must be returned within 24 hours of collection or delivery. No refunds are given due to change of mind. Any refunds given are at my discretion.
